There are as many different reasons for a bespoke gown as there are brides who choose them. It could be a desire for a particular fabric, colour or style, the reassurance that the gown will fit properly, the helpful advice of a professional dressmaker or the desire to wear something unique. But one thing all brides tell me is that the gown truly flatters their figure, enhancing or hiding where desired.
With a bespoke gown, you choose individually the fabric, style, colour and embellishments, unlike "made to order" when these are all chosen by someone else and you order as seen.
Bespoke gowns are made to your exact measurements, "made to order” is usually ordered to fit your largest measurement. Therefore if you have a large bust, it will have to be drastically altered to fit your waist and hips, conversely if you have large hips then the bust will have to be altered to fit etc. Alterations cost extra to the gown and there is a limit to how much alteration can be made without detracting from the designer's ideal. Petticoats are also often an extra cost. With Alpha Brides the cost you are quoted includes everything that you need with no hidden costs.
Having your gown made especially for you means that you are involved from the start and at every stage of the construction of your gown, small changes can be made as you go along, or even the whole gown re-planned if necessary. You see your gown evolve and have the confidence that it will be delivered in time. Many brides feel more confident if they can “see” rather than “envisage” the dress they will be wearing. For this reason they often purchase “made to order”, trying on a gown that often isn't your size, maybe isn’t “quite what you wanted” and deciding that this is the nearest that you will get. Not really a compromise that should be taken lightly. The dress is then ordered and you may not see it for many months, by which time you have probably forgotten what it was that you ordered. The gown arrives with the fitters shortly before your wedding and alterations are often rushed. That’s stress you can do without.
At Alpha Brides we can also supply extra fabric for accessories to match your gown, or I can make them for you such as bags, handkerchiefs or “favours”. Our Tiaras are hand made to order and can be supplied to match the embellishments of your gown. With “made to order” you normally can't get accessories to exactly match your gown.

Here is an example of a measurement dress. Firstly, to gauge your general size, you will try on one of our measurement dresses. Whilst wearing this, detailed measurements will be taken and the dress adjusted to fit you. Remember there are many adjustments needed that are not apparent by just measuring your bust, waist hips and height. To ensure your dream gown fits you exactly, we take approximately 45 different measurements.
After this stage, your toile will be created in the style of gown you choose. This will then be altered and amended to meet your requirements. It is only once you are happy with the style and fit that your gown will be cut and hand-crafted in your chosen fabrics.
